Our Values
What Is Green Tea?
What we call green tea, like black tea and Oolong tea, is a product of the Camellia sinensis plant. What distinguishes these types of tea is the way each is processed. For green tea, the freshly harvested tea leaves get immediately steamed before they can ferment, preserving the natural polyphenol compounds, which are called catechins. The tea is then rolled and dried for distribution.
Chemical analysis of green tea has yielded an array of very complex ingredients (percentages based on dry leaf weight):
- 30% phenolic compounds, mostly flavanols, flavonols and its most abundant catechin, epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG)
- 26% fiber
- 15%-20% proteins and their enzymes
- 1%-4% amino acids, such as theanine or 5-N-ethylglutamine, glutamic acid, tryptophan, glycine, serine, aspartic acid, tyrosine, valine, leucine, threonine, arginine and lysine
- 5%-7% carbohydrates such as cellulose, pectins, glucose, fructose and sucrose
- 7% lipids (linoleic and α-linolenic acids)
- 5% minerals and trace elements such as calcium, magnesium, chromium, manganese, iron, copper, zinc, molybdenum, selenium, sodium, phosphorus, cobalt, strontium, nickel, potassium, fluorine and aluminum
- 2% pigments (chlorophyll, carotenoids)
- Trace amounts of
- Sterols (stigmasterol)
- Vitamins (B, C, E)
- Xanthic bases (caffeine)
- Volatile compounds (aldehydes, alcohols, esters, lactones, hydrocarbons).
Divi’s Scalp Serum: The Benefits of Green Tea Extract for Hair Growth
More than just a delicious drink and a traditional Chinese and Japanese medicine, antioxidant-rich green tea has become the subject of much interest in the Western world because of its many emerging health benefits. Noting the effects of its catechins and polyphenols, researchers have studied – and the public has clamored after – green tea because of its purported effects in a wide variety of areas, from its role as an antioxidant to its efficacy in preventing or treating cancer, cardiovascular events like heart attacks and strokes, obesity, and diabetes.
As an alternative to drinking tea in liquid form, the extraction and inclusion of polyphenols and catechins, especially the component epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), has demonstrated clinically proven health benefits when incorporated into topical products. At Divi, we are especially interested in the use of these components of green tea to create a healthier scalp and promote the potential of healthy hair growth.
Our team at Divi is committed to creating hair and scalp care products incorporating clean, vegan, science-backed ingredients to fight hair loss. The dermatologist-approved Divi’s Scalp Serum features a proprietary blend of amino acids, peptides, vitamins and luscious-but-clinically effective botanical extracts to combat hair loss and stimulate hair regrowth. Our team of scientific researchers has developed a formula based on the science and clinical studies behind each ingredient as it relates to scalp health and hair development.
If you want to find an alternative solution to medicated treatments, transplant surgery, or hormone regulation, Divi’s Scalp Serum with green tea extract could help.
